Dedicated walking adventures for little dogs
The last couple of years have been a challenge for most of us. Life has changed in more ways than one and many of you are likely to be enjoying the benefits of working from home. Although this means your dog isn’t being left alone all day, you’re probably still committed to a full-time role, meaning you simply don’t have enough time in the day to juggle those business meetings and spend time taking your dog out for some quality exercise.
Small Paws Outdoors provides dog walking adventures that are more than a walk in the park. Exclusive to little dogs, there is an adventure to be had, whatever circumstances you find yourself in, whether you have a lockdown pup in need of socialisation, are returning to work or you just don’t like the idea of doggy day care.
As a small dog owner myself, I completely understand that little dogs need extra special care and attention. Due to their size, they’re a lot more vulnerable and can be prone to being stepped on, getting easily lost and can struggle with a number of health problems. For this reason, I have created four different adventures that have been tailored to the needs of little dogs, including Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, Cavapoos, Cockapoos, Shih Tzus, Terriers, Lhasa Apsos and more using my S.M.A.L.L system.
What happens on the first walk?
On the first few walks, I begin by taking your dog out on a one-to-one basis and always on lead. This is so we can get to know each other, build a bond, and I can assess your dog’s needs such as their likes and dislikes, walking style, manners and recall skills. Once we’ve formed a bond and I’m happy your dog is ready to join a group, I will then introduce them to other dogs I feel are a good match.
I’m also happy to walk your dog off lead providing you’ve given me express permission and I’m confident in their recall skills – but if you don’t want your dog walked off lead, that’s absolutely fine too! I prefer to be over cautious and to make sure your dog is well looked after so you can relax knowing your dog is in safe hands, will never be walked with large bouncy canines and is benefiting from just the right amount of exercise for their individual needs.
The S.M.A.L.L. system explained
S. | Small dogs only
Only small and toy breeds are walked together, reducing the risk of your little dog being stepped on by a larger breed.
M. | Management
A maximum of 4 dogs in a group, ensuring I'm in control of your pet at all times.
A. | Assessment
During our complimentary meet and greet and for the first few walks, I'll get to know your dog's specific needs and will continue to monitor these on every adventure.
This ensures your pet is fully engaged and benefiting from the right amount of exercise.
L. | Lead options available
I will never automatically walk your dog off lead without your permission and unless I'm fully confident your dog has good recall.
If you'd prefer to have your dog kept on lead at all times, that's absolutely your choice.
L. | Love
As a fellow small dog owner, I know how much your pet means to you and I will always treat your dog as I would my own, with kindness and respect.
I don't believe in using harsh techniques and only use positive reinforcement through game playing and by using high-quality treats to interact with your dog.
Andrea is professional in her approach, whilst her caring nature makes it clear to see she loves animals. She’s efficient in her timekeeping and very trustworthy, not just with my pets but also with the access to my home. I highly recommend Small Paws Outdoors.
